EXPO CIHAC is the most important construction, engineering, architecture and design event in Mexico and Latin America where key suppliers and buyers in the industry meet to generate business connections. +17,000 qualified national and international buyers. OBRA BLANCA is a specialized trade show on construction finishing materials and technology where Architects, interior designers and developers from all over Latin America attend to view the latest trends, connect with industry colleagues, and discover products that will advance their projects. MONTERREY often called the “Industrial Capital of Mexico,” is a major manufacturing hub with a strong focus on automotive, aerospace, and electronics. Its strategic location near the US border, well-developed infrastructure, and skilled workforce contribute to its appeal as a manufacturing destination. It is a significant wood market, particularly for softwood, due to its strong industrial base and proximity to the US market. Fueled by nearshoring trends attracting foreign investment and manufacturing, it has created a high demand for building materials including lumber.

Mexico loves timber and there is a lumber surge as Mexico’s economy continues to defy expectations sustaining an annual economic growth of between 3-4% since the pandemic. More than 50% of the lumber imported into Mexico comes from the United States (53.6%) followed by Brazil (28%), Chile (13.5%), and Canada fourth (3%). Mexico is America’s largest timber buyer, with US lumber companies exporting more than 132,500 cubic metres across their southern border in June 2024 (which is up more than 13.5% over 2023). 62% of Canadian lumber is transported into Mexico by rail, 25% by truck, and 13% by sea (Guadalajara + CDMX). Most imported wood is handled by direct importers and distributors who resell the product either to the industry (furniture, carpentry, construction, packaging), to other distributors, to retailers or specialized stores that handle large volumes. There are 500 to 600 importers/distributors, mainly located in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana.
