In an era where misinformation often overshadows facts, a new grassroots initiative is stepping up to provide clear, trustworthy information about the vital role of responsible forest management in British Columbia.
BC Wood recently sat down with Steve Kozuki, Executive Director of Forestry Works for BC, to discuss why a fresh approach is needed to reach British Columbians. Steve noted that previous efforts by industry and government were often met with skepticism – especially when messages came from corporate executives or politicians.
Forestry Works for BC aims to change that by reshaping both the messengers and the message:
Steve emphasized that the goal isn’t to polarize opinions, but to educate the majority of people who are uncertain or curious about how our forests are managed.
A persistent misconception the initiative tackles is that sustainable forestry is a trade-off between jobs and the environment, whereas in reality, it’s a solution that delivers both. Steve pointed out that responsible forestry can be part of climate solutions – from bioenergy projects that use leftover wood waste for clean energy to long-term stewardship that helps forests remain vibrant for generations.
Recognizing that traditional media aren’t the primary way many British Columbians get information anymore, the campaign is investing in short-form, social-first content that’s authentic, human, and rooted in stories.
