Presentation Summary:
This course offers architects and building professionals an in-depth introduction to Western Red Cedar and Yellow Cedar shakes and shingles, covering product identification, material selection, and appropriate use in roofing and sidewall applications. The program reviews manufacturing and grading standards, third-party inspection and labeling, relevant building codes, and performance characteristics including fire, wind, and impact resistance. Proper installation practices, common installation errors, and basic maintenance and repair considerations are also addressed to support long-term performance and durability of cedar roof and wall systems.

Presenter Profile:
Anthony (Tony) Hyatt, Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau (“CSSB”), Northern Midwest District Manager, is an experienced field representative in business to business and direct sales, small business management, and regional marketing of roofing products. Mr. Hyatt most recently worked in the steel roofing industry, offering sales, product application training, estimating and consulting. He has worked on a number of different roof installations and conducted hands on educational training seminars in multiple states as well as one in Japan. Mr. Hyatt also owned and operated his own roofing company in the State of Wisconsin, held the Certainteed “Master Shingler” designation and installed cedar roofs.
