MLA meets with Chinese official

Hopes of increasing sales of pre-fabricated homes made from Vancouver Island lumber to China were increased after a meeting Monday between the Asian country’s ambassador to Canada and Parksville-Qualicum MLA Ron Cantelon.

Cantelon is a member of a new four-member committee appointed by the government last month that is tasked to investigate measures that can be used to help B.C.’s ailing forest industry.

He met with Ambassador Zhang Junsai during a luncheon in Victoria to discuss the possibility of expanding the Chinese market for pre-fabricated homes, and Junsai said there may be opportunities to explore in his homeland.
