Harnessing social media in the construction industry

Social media is transforming business communications and the marketing of products and services to clients, but the key to online success is developing a good strategy.

“Give your customers information they won’t find anywhere else,” said MS2 Productions executive producer Melissa Shenk, who was recently a speaker at the Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) 93rd Annual Conference. “No matter what you do in construction, if you humanize what you do, establish a presence online and nurture relationships, that is a real game changer. It can open up new markets.”

Shenk told a room full of CCA delegates that the top four online tools, Twitter, You Tube, LinkedIn and Facebook, are rapidly changing the way people look at business strategy.

“People are having millions of conversations everyday online” she said.

“Look at Twitter as your personal newspaper and the tweets as your headlines. They can be used to attract people to your website. All businesses should have a Facebook page, because people will find you there first.”
