No comment on the branding, but Sharp will soon [JP] produce a cell phone whose body is made entirely of wood, namely Japanese cypress. According to Sharp, the handset is not a joke product but actually built for long-term usage, meaning buyers won’t have to fear mold and other things.
Technically, the phone isn’t anything special. It features a 3.4-inch touchscreen with 480×854 resolution with Sharp “Mobile ASV Engine”, a 5MP CMOS camera with AF, and a microSDHC slot (16GB).
Sharp is planning to release the TOUCH WOOD in Japan in February or March next year. The price is yet to be determined, but the phone is limited to 15,000 units and will be distributed through Japan’s biggest mobile carrier NTT Docomo.
