The North American softwood lumber market price for the benchmark product of KD western SPF #2&Btr 2×4 R/L ex mill, important from a European standpoint, was $198/1000 bdft on 18 June 2010, according to  Random Lengths. The price was thus more or less back at the level reached in November 2009. Compared with the last peak level, which was reached at the end of April 2010 at $320/1000 bdft, the product lost roughly 38% of its value within the space of seven weeks. The “Framing Lumber Composite Price” has continued to fall and was recently almost 30% below the peak value.
